Hi Friends!

No matter where you are in your style journey, one important skill to have is to know how to maximize your space. That’s something I’ve learned how to master from living with others and navigating various sized closets. As I was preparing for a recent move, I took a look at photos of my new closet space and took inventory of what I had because I knew that I would likely have to be very intentional about what I brought with me and how I would store it. If you’ve been following along for a bit, you’ve already learned about the importance of showing your wardrobe love and how to maintain order in your wardrobe. Now is a great time to think of different ways that you can maximize your space/wardrobe so that you can make the most of it.

HANGERS

Let’s start with hangers! Having the right hangers for your needs is a total game changer. I’ve been home with my family and since I’ve been here, I’ve had the chance to help my mom out with pain points that she’s had within her new space. We detoxed and organized her wardrobe (Did you catch the video?!). She had a lot of mismatched hangers that took up more space than needed. A major part of organizing was to put everything on the same style hanger and also utilize a hanger that would help add room. Felt hangers are known for being great space savers. Take a look at the before and after process to see how cohesive that one change made and I encourage you to try them out for yourselves! Yay for great aesthetics!

WICKER BASKETS

I’m such a sucker for wicker baskets! They are so functional and also add to the decor (again.. yay to aesthetics!!) The first one I got was from World Market and I use it to store all of my blankets (it looks pretty similar to this one*). There are also great hamper options and the ones with the lids are perfect because you can toss your dirty laundry in there and it won’t be an eye sore (I’m clearly a fan! Check out this post).

The next set of baskets that I purchased came from Marshall’s from the Magnolia line. I realized that my shoes were an eye sore and that I had nowhere to put random essentials like my flat iron, linens, etc. I found a set of two rectangular baskets and designated one for my shoes and the other for the random essentials and they tucked away in my space nicely! It was a quick and easy fix!

UNDER BED STORAGE

Still have more pieces but nowhere to put them? For your heavier garments like sweaters, I highly recommend bags* that you can zip up and store under your bed. Personally, I love the garment bags with handles, which allow for easier accessibility. You might need to use bed risers to add room for the bags to fit nicely, but they’re definitely worth it! There are even vacuum sealed* options that are pretty inexpensive. Additionally, you can utilize a storage bag specifically for shoes* and tuck them away neatly as well!

OTTOMANS

Ottomans* serve multiple purposes. One would be that they’re cute, obviously ;). They also create a great space for you to sit down and put your shoes on when you’re getting ready. AND finally — they’re perfect for storage! This is another great place to store your out of season clothing, shoes, blankets, linens, etc.
